I’m Kerry 2 Smooth.

What’s up! I'm Kerry Marshall, Jr., but you may know me as Kerry ‘2 Smooth’. I'm a chill laid back family guy who has a passion for music and teaching others how to play guitar. Let me tell you how I got started.

As Seen On:

Kerry’s musical journey

My early years

I started out just like you, trying to squeeze as much as I could out of a couple of chords at my local church. I had zero knowledge of chords or keys, and I was so bad that during one service, the other musicians asked me to turn down my amp ... and I wasn't even plugged in!

Fast forward a few years, and I found myself serving in the U.S. Army. It was during my deployment in Iraq that I really started to connect with the guitar. I won a few talent shows and that's when I realized I really wanted to make a career out of this.

The grind

After leaving the military, I moved back to Birmingham, Alabama, and that’s where the “grind” started. While pursuing my education, I played at local clubs and the southern soul circuit . I was still limited in my chord playing, but I was determined to improve. That's when I was introduced to the Numbers System, and it changed everything for me.

I moved to Los Angeles with my hometown band, 5th Element, and man it was anything but glitz and glamour. I was on the brink of giving up and returning to Birmingham when I got the call to play for Tyrese at the Saint Kitts Music Festival. That gig saved my career, and from there, things started to turn around.

Coming into my own

After the Tyrese gig, I started to work with Chrisette Michelle, Keke Wyatt, Joe, and Ledisi. I toured all over the world with Jason Derulo. I also toured with Kiana Lede for her 1st headliner tour. I performed on the Jimmy Kimmel show twice; once with 2 Chains, Ty $ Sign & Trey Songz, and then again with Isaiah Rashad & Sza.

I appeared on Good Morning America twice, once with Ledisi and again with Jason Derulo, the Seth Meyers show with Kiana Lede, on James Corden with Tori Kelly, and the Tamron Hall show with Grace Weber, who I also have 2 album placements with. I’ve had several radio performances including Tiny Desk. I’ve had the opportunity to play for crowds of 150,000 and more. I’ve traveled all over the world to play in Malta, Malaysia, and Hungary to name a few. I’ve been fortunate to also play on the Dove Awards with Pastor Mike Jr.

Empowering other guitarists

I started giving private lessons and realized that many students were focusing on useless information. I wanted to share the shortcuts that helped me progress much quicker than the traditional path. That's when I launched Kerry's Kamp, my online R&B guitar community.

After launching Kerry’s Kamp, I connected with students all over the world. Those connections opened the path for me to have my very 1st guitar clinics in London, England, Tokyo and Osaka, Japan.

My journey hasn't been easy, but it's been worth it. My mission isn't just to sell courses, but to use any platform I have to encourage, educate, and empower guitarists at all levels to play the way they've always wanted to play and to reach levels they never imagined possible.
